About Civil Services Exam

The Civil Services Examination (CSE) is a nationwide competitive examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission for recruitment to various Civil Services of the Government of India, including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS) among others. It is conducted in two phases – the Preliminary examination consisting of two objective-type papers (General Studies Paper I and General Studies Paper II is also known as the Civil Service Aptitude Test or CSAT), and the Main examination consisting of nine papers of conventional (essay) type, followed by a Personality test(interview). Civil Services examination is considered not only as one of the most prestigious one in India but also as one of the toughest exams in the world.

However, preparing for Civil Service Examination is not a Herculean task. It is simply about understanding the basic concepts of various subjects such as History, Polity, Economy, Geography, Social Issues, Environmental Issues, Science & Technological Developments, Disaster Management, Sustainable Development, Internal Security etc., comprehending all the phenomena occuring around you and presenting your ideas in a lucid and practical manner in the examination. Any aspirant, with any background (rural or urban) or medium of education (Telugu, Hindi or English), can successfully clear this examination. What requires is determination, dedication, sincerity and commitment while preparing for the examination. Understanding is more important than knowledge and common sense is more needed than intelligence. One should also bear in mind that it is not just about reaching the goal or completing a task, but about your conviction, perseverance and burning desire to succeed in the Civil Services Examination and to become an IAS/IPS officer having the zeal and capacity to be part of nation’s progress and development.
